Trabis is the new typeface by Axel Pelletanche-Thévenart, designer of Knif Mono. It has been baptized with a Latin name that refers to a solid piece of wood used for structural purposes.
Its blurred serifs give to Trabis an oldstyle typewriter flavour, although the structures of its glyphs are rooted into our 2020 digital world.As all its “A is for” type foundry’s fellows, Trabis has been refined so that it works perfectly for continuous reading, but its soul shows the best when used as display, showing its steep lowercase “r” and some of its big-headed capitals.
Although the whole typeface is light, the punctuation and the dots are accentuated and made black, which creates a nice contrast and add more texture to the sentence.
The default set of capitals has strong features, but if you prefer a milder style, the stylistic set n°1 is what you aim for, replacing Q N Q R S by their slightly more calm versions.
If the type tester is not enough for your trials, you can contact me and I can provide a trial version with a limited glyphset (basic lowercase and basic capitals) and no OpenType features.
Please remember that this type foundry can continue providing new designs only if you buy fonts once in a while :)
