The creation of the David font family started with this sample of letters from a book published in 1969 by David Gates. The book was showing different styles of alphabets for lettering purpose. I liked the wide proportions of it, I made the counters (inside o, b, d, etc.) more squarish, and the font eventually turned into a family of 6 weights, ranging from "extralight" to "heavy".
Later on, instead of a basic slanted italic, I decided to go for a true italic, with meant a change in shapes and deeper junctions.
Since its creation, David has proven to be a perfect match for editorial content, especially magazines, such as Papiers France Culture, Entorse and Girls like us which are using it.
Here you can download the “A is for” test fonts collection and use them for demonstration purpose only, if you are a professionnal and you need to convince a client before purchase, or if you are a student and want to try one of our fonts for a school project.
