BTP stands for Building, Typing, Publishing. The design of BTP is freely inspired by the default typeface used in the computer-assisted design software AutoCAD, mainly used by architects for the conception of graphic documents (plans, elevations, etc.).
The story of this font began in August 2011, when the #195 issue of the French magazine Étapes, entitled "Somewhere between graphic design and architecture…", served as a playground for typographic experiments by the Équipe type, under the direction of Guillaume Grall and Étienne Hervy.
After the publication of the magazine, Jeremy Perrodeau and Guillaume Grall have been working together to enhance the typeface. After several months of construction, BTP, a font with angular curves, gained an autonomous life and became available in one bold weight. Four years laters, a light weight has been added as well as rotated versions to be used as italics.
Guillaume and Jeremy also designed a type specimen for BTP, shown above, that you can order here.
The BTP font includes a set of around 30 pictograms, ranging from brick walls to pizza. The patterns can be used to create underlining styles, or frames, or borders, just as the good old ornaments that were made in metal in good old days to create a flourished page layout. Except that here in BTP, we are talking about solid road patterns and fierce fences, with no curve at all.
The BTP font includes two stylistic sets : the first one for light punctuation, and the second one for a tabular version of all capitals and currency symbols.
Here you can download the “A is for” test fonts collection and use them for demonstration purpose only, if you are a professionnal and you need to convince a client before purchase, or if you are a student and want to try one of our fonts for a school project.
Please remember that this type foundry can continue providing new designs only if you buy fonts once in a while :)
Test fonts have no OpenType features and are limited to this character set:
